There’s a new disturbing trend that is hitting the high schools of the country. According to recent polls conducted by a small University in West Virginia, many students now think of appearing in teen porn videos as chic, and a great number of these youth have appeared in said videos, if not aspire to be in them.
“It is rather commonplace for kids to try out new and dangerous things,” noted psychologist Dr. Raphael Rivera, one of the doctors who participated in the said study. “Peer pressure, always plays a big part of that desire, and with the media’s portrayal of certain celebrities who have done similar acts influences the children to be more accommodating to the idea of exposing themselves in such a manner.”
When young actor Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical fame was discovered to have nude pictures of herself and those pictures were leaked into the Internet, it raised quite a commotion, and amazingly enough, the attention received by the young star perhaps have influenced a lot of the teens of today.
“It’s referred to as “fear of isolation”, an inherent reluctance in everyone to be left out or regarded of as different” added Dr. Rivera. “In the process of my research, I have scanned thousands of pictures on Myspace and other similar social networking sites and I have come upon and remarkable number of teens, mostly girls, who post pictures of themselves in various degrees of undress. It is only logical that this trend would escalate to more risky and even more appropriate, risqué behavior, like videos.”
The webcam chat rooms are also littered with young girls who seem to enjoy stripping in front of the webcam. Is this a sign that we are breeding a new generation of exhibitionists?
“While I personally don’t see anything distressing about this situation, I fear for the parents of these young girls, who obviously come from a much simpler time. As a professional dealing with human behavior, the only possible danger I could recognize is the probable cause f this constant need for attention and approval from any one, even strangers” concluded Dr. Rivera.
One can only speculate where things would go from here. With the nation’s youth focusing their energies and such activities, is the future generation doomed to become a bunch of promiscuous individuals whose aspirations can only be fulfilled by the number of people who see them naked?
